Gyrn Moelfre & Mynydd-y-briw

Walk summary
Chance to pick off a couple of relatively close yet otherwise isolated Marilyns on the return journey of the first Welsh Nuttall trip of the year. Whilst my focus and priority this year are the Welsh Nuttalls I am still keeping an eye on completing the English Marilyns, hence utilising return journeys for the odd hill that otherwise would need a special trip.
Little was I to know this would be my last peak bagging trip for some time due to a recurrence of a back problem that not only stopped me walking but also being able to sit at a computer to catch up on  the increasing backlog of walk reports.
It is now mid October writing this following 6 months of frustration, false recoveries and lots of time to consider what caused it and why the recovery has been so long.
Thoughts on this subject will be covered on a separate page. But one thought is that jumping in the van and driving for 2 or 3 hours after one of these walks may be what is causing my back to stiffen and that then causes spasms and further problems. I do not think that is the problem but rest assured  I will not be fitting in any hills on the return journey for the first few trips and after that will be making sure I have adequately stretched, rested and take appropriate breaks to avoid sitting in the same position behind the wheel for more than 1-2 hours.
Going forwards - one thought that has occurred to me - which has been a mantra throughout life is to: "Not put off until tomorrow what you can do today".
So now I have recovered, my plan is to make up for lost time and give some real focus to bringing the Nuttall completion back on track, but this time paying particular attention to the phrase '...what you can do today.' So this will entail proper physical preparation and rehab and not trying to do too much too soon. That is why my first trip will not target Nuttalls at all but short multiple walks to bag Marilyns in the Welsh Borders.

Figure of eight route starting at Moelfre Hall. Lots of options for routes as the area is used as a private cycle downhill track which really suits my way of walking as I like to avoid going up a hill and coming back exactly the same way. Sticking to these paths on the way up then following the track down the gully east of Craig Gamhyll left me with a clear conscience as the summit and hill itself is not actually on open access land.

Driving from Moelfre Hall to Mynydd-y-briw I was conscious of time of day and getting home before late evening so was considering  if I should just park at the gate and follow the track up and down to the transmitter station or park outside the chapel and have a short circular walk. Arriving at the chapel the decision was made for me as a heavy lorry was blocking the road to the transmitter station. Parking at the phonebox you can walk up the access track to Tyn-y-celyn, take the left fork and use public access to field and follow fence all the way up to the transmitter station. The summit is west and behind the station and in my view not on the spot height as marked on the OS Explorer map. Seems to me to be on the rocky ridge sticking out of the grass by just a few inches.
The desscent rout I took the access track back to the main road. The stile over the fence confirming in my mid it was a permissive path though at the bottom the gate clearly said it was private. Anyway from there it was a short walk north back to the van followed by a 4 hour drive back to Suffolk.
